Leading Across Cultures & Genders
How does Bayer implement the change?
Leading Across Cultures and Genders” is a leader-led, strategically focused and business driven initiative at Bayer. Accountability for change lies with leaders to define and implement the balance that makes the most sense to their changing business realities. The initiative started with aligning Bayer’s top management teams and is now rolled out globally.
We offer workshops and tools that support Bayer’s managers in developing a greater knowledge about cultural and gender differences. By utilizing these, Bayer managers will be in a better position to attract, develop, motivate and retain employees across cultures and genders. They will become more self-aware to resist the very natural human tendency of unconsciously preferring people that resemble them or echo their ideas.
Bayer has established a Global Steering Committee comprised of all board members, division heads, heads of Communication, Regional Coordination and HR. The Steering Committee provides oversight to this initiative and helps ensure that Bayer achieves its global objective on culture and gender by regular tracking of progress made.
Bayer has also started to communicate about Best Practice Leaders – leaders who actually create balanced management or project teams, make the effort to get to know ALL their talents across different geographies and genders, and who leverage the balance for better business outcomes.
Blend – the global resource group for Bayer’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees and supporters

We are living in a world of rich diversity. The number of diverse families, same-sex partnerships and openly homosexual public figures has been increasing for many years. However, to deal openly with sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression is still a challenge in the workplace. In the global Bayer Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community - a worldwide network of LGBT employees and supporters at Bayer – we want to address this topic.
In Blend - the global resource group for Bayer’s LGBT employees and supporters – we want to address this topic.
